I've been procrastinating on writing this post all morning. And here we are in the afternoon and finally I've started typing. something.

Even though I'm sure I've made up my mind and everything is said and done, I can't help but feel a little hesitant when I say that this is my last post on Idee Geniale.

After two years and much growing up, I've decided to move on to a new, more me blog. Not to say that this blog isn't me, but I feel like my life has changed and I am no longer attached to it like I used to be. I always said that I would quit as soon as it felt more like a chore than a hobby and so here we are.

I've thought about a lot of things that i could've done instead of just calling it quits; a new blog layout, more lifestyle posts, not posting as often, letting go of sponsors, but all of that wasn't enough for me to be able to really feel happy about continuing with this blog.

So with all of this said, I've moved over to a new blog, new layout, and new beginning. I really hope to see some of you that have been following me from the start or even to the new friends that have just found this blog. You can now read what I'm up to at : www.uneviegeniale.blogspot.com.

Just a little outfit post for you. I love how sunny these pictures are, as they were taken on Monday morning before heading to work. It's the only time that Soner and I have during the week to take them. He started a new job a little while ago and now works nights. Our schedules couldn't be any more opposite right now but at least we still have the weekends!

So I wanted to show you these cool little nail appliques that Veronika introduced me to. They called Sally Hansen Salon effects and come in a variety of little designs for your nails. I decided to add my own little touch by painting only one finger and the rest cute little flowers. They claim to stay on for 10 days but i think mine has already reached it's limit at day 6. But I still think that I will try them again. They're so fun for summer party's!

Well, i'm sure everyone is gearing up for this long weekend either in Canada or here in the US. We are planning on going camping upstate, it'll be my first time up there so it'll for sure be interesting. Anybody else got some fun plans?

Dans la cuisine: Blueberry Pancakes

Growing up, it was always tradition that Sunday mornings were to include pancakes. This was sort of our treat for going to church, a pretty sweet trade-off really. Keeping with tradition, I love making these on lazy Sundays and of course, they're always from scratch, just like my dad used to make...except mine are now vegan. I made these on Sunday and funny enough, while on skype with my sister right before getting in the kitchen, she had just finished her own blueberry pancakes over on her end of the pond. You can't mess with tradition.

What you will need:

1 cup of flour

1 tablespoon of sugar

2 tablespoons of baking powder

1/8 teaspoon of salt

1 cup of soymilk/ricemilk

2 tablespoons of canola oil

1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
1 handful of fresh blueberries

What you do (skip over the pictures):

Pre-heat a flat bottom pan or griddle on medium heat.
Combine all dry ingredients into a mixing bowl and gently mix together
Add the liquids and mix until you have no more clumps
Add blueberries, or chocolate chips work too!
Your pan should be hot enough by now, pour the batter into 4 equal pancake shapes.
Once you see bubbles starting to form on top of the batter, that's when you test your flipping skills and turn them over.
They should be a nice golden color on both sides when they're fully cooked.
Enjoy with maple syrup, fresh juice and berries.

Let's see, where to begin?? First off, this super colorful plaid shirt founds its way to me via Nashville. I did a swap with Alyson, of Alyson is Neat a few weeks ago and have been loving everything she included. Swaps have been helping me cope with my no-buying ban I implemented this year and I've been going strong for 6 months now {with the exception of swimwear essentials} . More on the ban will be coming up later.

These pictures were taken on Saturday. It was spent running errands for the apartment and of course hitting up the farmer's market. I think we've kind of slowed down with getting it all set-up but we really want to finish it up so it's ready for when my mom comes to visit in Just about 3 weeks. Then we headed out to the city to meet up with Nickie, Kelly, and Alex. it was so much fun meeting these girls and taking them out around town. I hope they had fun too.

I didn't realize this until I saw these pictures that I have a sort of mullet. It wasn't intential and I hope it's not horrible but it is a little funny. I thought Monday was going to be a little cold out so I dusted off my tights and paired them with this {too} short polka dot dress that I've been meaning to wear. Unfortunately, the weather was NOT as expected and I was way too over dressed for the day..well except for in my office where the temperatures make you feel like you're still in December.

Someone asked me about my gym routine and I just wanted to answer it on here in case anyone else was wondering. I do have a gym memebership but these days I've been having a hard time finding the time to go. I try to work out at least 4 times/ week and that includes doing about 4o-45 minutes of cardio and ending with some yoga/stretching, and a few crunches. That's it. Unfortunately I haven't been motivated to do anything else and am just trying to get back to my ideal weight... I focus more on how my clothes fit instead of the number on the scale.

On Sunday afternoon, I played hooky from any chores, errands, and responsibilities {which is a very rare thing} to go down to the beach. It was a beautiful afternoon spent with my boyfriend, body surfing, reading and munching on some snacks. I took a few pictures.

*This last one was taken at a seperate beach while we went on a little adventure. It reminded me of that boat they visit in Never let me Go, the saddest book/movie ever....

I feel like since I moved to the city, the beach has been just a memory from my West coast days but this Summer I've already been twice! It's definitely one of my new favorite places to go.

On Saturday at the meet-up we had a little make-shift photobooth set-up complete with props. My camera was held hostage on it's tripod for most of the event but in the end, I got all of these funny pictures to take home. Here are some faves.

Hurray! A new outfit post. These a becoming very rare as we ease our way into Summer. I already feel like a little busy bee, planning meet-ups, concerts, trips, whatever else there is! Well, if you can't tell, I decided to go back to my layered, shaggy do since it's much more mangeable than longer length layers. This way, it's basically mess it up and go. It also cuts the drying time in half! I'm so happy with anything that will save me just a little time.

I know the "trend" these days is color blocking but I like to march to the beat of my own drum and well, color match!! gasp! How do i even work in the fashion industry? Ok, kidding, it's not so bad. I realy just have a lot of blue in my wardrobe. It's kind of a no- brainer outfit, so why not?

Dans la cuisine: Chickpea Cutlets

It's been a while since I posted a recipe. Fear not, I have in fact been eating but I've just been too preoccupied to take a picture before it's all in my belly.

Now, these cutlets, if you're allergic to gluten, then this is not for you. If you're not, then carry on. I made these way back when Soner and I were still just newly dating. He was coming over for dinner and I wanted to impress... so I made cutlets? what the?? Anyways, it worked. This is one of his favorite meals yet.

Chickpea Cutlets

What you'll need:

1 cup cooked chickpeas

2 tablespoons olive oil

1/2 cup vital wheat gluten

1/2 cup plain bread crumbs

1/4 vegetable broth

2 tablespoons of soy sauce

2 cloved of garlic, grated

1/2 teaspoon lemon zest

1/2 teaspoon dried thyme

1/2 hungarian paprika

1/4 teaspoon dried rubbed sage

Olive oil for panfrying.

*Don't let the list of ingredients deter you from trying out this recipe.

Some of the spices can be substituted for anything you can find in your pantry.

What you do:

In a mixing bowl, mash the chickpeas together with the oil until no whole chickpeas are left.

Add the remaining ingredients and knead for about 3 minutes, until he mixture becomes stringy.

Preheat a large heavy-bottomed non-stick or cast iron skillet over medium heat.

Divide cutlet dough into four equal pieces. I usually just ball it up, then flatten it out while pulling on all ends to make a sort of patty shape.

Add a thin layer of olive oil to the pan. PLeace the cutlets in the pan and cook on each sde for 6-7 minutes until brownish gold.

If you don't want to fry these, you can also bake them. Preheat oven to 375F, lightly oil a baking sheet.

Brush both sides of patty with olive oil and place on sheet. Bake for 20 minutes. Flip and bake for another 8-10 minutes.

I usually serve these with a side of rice, and some sauteed kale.

Hi there, just an outfit picture from a little while ago. I've been a little busy with wedding stuff, and family in the past few days so I haven't had time to take any new outfit pictures.

The wedding was yesterday and went really well. Everything was so beautiful, I can't wait to see how the pictures turned out! I'll definitely share them as soon as I get them. In the meantime, I hope everyone is enjoying their weekend so far. I'm hoping to make it back to New York tomorrow, but with this pending strike with Air Canada, I'm just crossing my fingers I make it back!

These were taken at some point over last weekend. I don't quite remember when since I changed into a few outfits. The weather kept on changing and well, so did my feelings on what I was wearing at the moment. I think we might've just stepped out for a quick bite to eat or something so this casual outfit was perfect. I had to wear the cardigan since my tattoo was still healing and I wanted to keep it out of the sun.

Oh and this is how my hair looks when it's straightened. It looks so much longer! Haha, well I think i'm ready to cut it back to my lovely shaggy cut once I get back from Ottawa. I'm still not going to dye it, I'm so happy with my natural hair color and that I've gotten this far without dying it. It's still going to take me ages to get it all back to natural, but this is a step.

Over the weekend, we heard a little rumor that the L train wasn't running into the city and that shuttle busses we're our only way across the bridge. Well, consider ourselves Williamsburg-arized when we automatically though that going into the city wouldn't be an option. Instead, we decided to try out this new little Turkish restaurant and then head out to the Brooklyn Flea. Here are a few pictures from our day.

Our food was so good that I didn't even have the chance to take a picture before we devoured it! oops! So with full bellies, we walked over to the Flea Market in search for a few things for the apartment.

I love the new flea market location! It's so convenient and such a big space. We didn't get everything we were looking for but did return home with a few finds. Oh well, looks like we'll just have to return next weekend!

Well, things have been a little hectic over here but that's not really news now is it? I'm gearing up for Thursday when I leave for Ottawa, to attend my sister's wedding. I'm the MOH which, I guess if you live out of town {of out of the country}, doesn't really mean a whole lot until the week of the big day. I'm totally prepared to be running around, and by running, I mean driving, because this is the suburbs and not New York, and doing whatever my sister will need me to do. I'm hoping there's a lot of babysitting this lil'guy.

I'm wearing a vintage dress that I bought some time ago last winter. It was falling apart at a few places and buttons were coming off but I really couldn't pass up such a beautiful dress! Just a few quick touches with a needle and thread and this vintage beauty is restored just in time for Summer. Oh and these are my new Gimmik shoes. I decided to go with the brown ones, but judging from the giveaway i'm currently having, I think the majority is leaning towards black. I've mentioned before how much I love visiting the farmer's market every weekend. we wake up {not too early} and try to get there as early as we can to make sure that we don't miss out on the good stuff. You know, like strawberries...which they sold out of at 11 am last weekend..grrrr. So these mornings require minimal effort but since I live in Willsburg, I definitely feel a little tiny pressure to always look presentable, as in no pj's allowed. but let's face it, do you thinkg I'd ever leave my house in my pj's?

Ladies! Please try and invest in a pair of bicycle shorts or cut offs! i can't tell you how many bums I've seen since the weather has gotten warmer and winds being slightly gusty.

I've never been one to follow trends. In fact, that word makes me cringe, just as much as fashionista does. Another word I ever use to describe myself.
But what does one vintage loving gal do when Lace becomes trendy? I guess you just embrace it don't you? So when High gloss fashion offered to send me these lace shorts, I kind of happily accepted. I'm glad I did since they combine my two loves, shorts+lace. Of course, I don't think I could ever pull these off sans tights but I already have plenty of outfit ideas to put into the works.

Thanks to the long weekend, this week is going by so fast! This weekend is the last one before I head up to Ottawa for my sister's wedding on June 11th. I'll be getting all the last minute things, like a proper strapless bra to wear under my bridesmaid dress,make sure all accessories work well together, practice walking in my tall girl shoes so I don't trip down the aisle. You know, that sort of stuff. That said, I'm also going to be getting the last coloring on my tattoo! Yes, finally there's a light at the end of the tunnel. I told myself to have it all done and this is cutting it super close. I'm just hoping for a quick healing period. Any tips on getting a tattoo to heal real fast?? anyone?

Aaaannnd i'm back from a relaxing, eventful, sunny Memorial day long weekend. Well, yes, I do realize that it's now Wednesday so I should've been back yesterday but my days have just been so jammed packed that I did not have a minute to post.

We spent most of Monday lazing around at the beach, enjoying the hot sunny weather that has finally arrived and seems to be staying {just jinxed it...}. After that, I quickly got home, washed away all of the sand and remnants from the beach and made myself look somewhat presentable for the Time Square crowd, since that's where I was meeting my ladies for a screening of Bridesmaids {which was hilarious, mostly due to Melissa McCarthy}. So all in all, t'was a very good weekend here in Brooklyn.

I love love love the lighting in these pictures as they were taken at my favorite time of day right before the sunset. I met up with a friend at the in between point of both our places that just so happens to be this park. If you follow my tweets, you'll already know that my friend had a Vegan, German Chocolate cake to pawn off from a birthday party over the weekend. It was delicious, and we still have so me leftover if you live in Brooklyn, you know how to reach me....

You might've already seen other bloggers, that are way more diligent on posting on time, wearing their Converse chuck-its from Kaboodle. I've been wearing mine out on errands, and lazy weekend outfits but have not yet had the chance to post them on here. They're super comfy and I love the fact that they're slip ons! I never had the chance to own classic chucks, only borrowed my sister's from time to time since she was cooler than me when it came to the whole "grunge" thing. So now I'm happy to have a pair to call my own.

Just catching up on some outfit pictures I took last week. The weather was mostly rain making it really difficult to take any pictures, let alone getting a together a decent outfit.

We've been blessed this weekend with gorgeous sunny days so far which explains my absence. I've spent most of the last two days outside, riding my bike, having picnics in the park, and attended a roof top party last night. I think today will be a day of catching up on home stuff.

On Sunday night, as if my weekend hadn't been eventful enough, I met up with my gals at the Brooklyn Bowl for an event called Local x Local. My good friends at Dusty Rose Vintage were selling some of their wares, and it's right in the neighborhood, so why not? It turned into a really fun Sunday night, thanks to this little thing called The BKBooth. Scroll down to see what I mean.

Yup, these are my girls that I usually spend most of my weekends with. I've said it before and I'll say it again, I am so lucky to have such a tight knit group of ladies to not only hang out with but to count on when whenever i need it. The gentleman in the white cardigan, the hubby of one friend, was the one that came over on Friday night to assess my cut finger. He drove me to the pharmacy to get some first aid supplies and made sure I was taken care of before leaving. Now that is what I call getting by with a little help from my friends. {oh Soner was working, don't worry, he would have surely been there to help if he could've}

We all know how many adorable dresses you can find on Modcloth, I know because I own a lot of them. But how freakin' ah-mazing are these pants? While browsing through the site thinking to myself to just try and branch out of my comfort zone, I stumbled across these drapey floral lovelies. I wore them out on Sunday to meet up with a few ladies for our usual photoshoot shenanigans. After the shoot, we hopped up to the roof to take these pictures.

Since it was Sunday and I was already running late, I paired them with a super basic white tank, my denim jacket that seems to never leave my body these days, and some heeled booties to compensate for my shortness. These pants are just so comfortable that I think they're soon going to replace my usual leggings that I seem to always wear around the house.

If you didn't catch it on the Bust blog yesterday, here is my outfit from the craftacular. I "bought" this dress at Beacon's Closet {with store credit} last weekend and figured that this was the perfect place to wear it. It's a re-worked african print robe from Zachary Smile's White Label. I love how this little crochet apron was the perfect little topper and suitable for a crafty crowd. I did have to walk a few blocks to get us some lunch over at S'nice and got a few stares on the way but hey, this is New York! People are cookie so as long as I kept my head up and walked like I was a lady on a mission, no one really commented.

Oh just don't mind the bandaged finger in that last picture. I had a little accident on Friday night that made me think I might've had to test out the hospitals here in Brooklyn, which frankly, scares the heck out of me, but turns out a few closure strips, some bactene and bandaids is all that was needed.

Just a few pictures from the Bust Craftacular on Saturday. I found the venue to be a lot smaller and not as many vendors, so i'm hoping that this was just a fluke and that the next one will be bigger, and better. i guess the Spring fairs just aren't as big in general, but we still managed to have fun, and eat all the vegan treats possible.

Take this one for example. We were walking down a new {to us} street in our neighborhood to find a place for pictures when we came across this wall. As soon as I saw it, I told Soner: "Umm, this wall matches my shirt. We NEED to take my pictures here." How funny is this? I feel like Zach Braff in Garden State when his aunt makes him this shirt that matches the wallpaper in the hallway, or was it bathroom?Minor details... Of course I'm a dork that wanted to recreate the scene.

So today I'm at the Bust Craftacular, if you're in the neighborhood, you should come by. I always use these craft fairs as the perfect opportunity to get gifts for upcoming birthdays or better yet, for Quinn, and my brother's new little baby addition in July! Yes, that's right, I'm going to be an aunt again!! I'm so so excited to get to spoil yet another little nephew or niece {they're keeping it a surprise}.

I am so happy that it's finally the weekend! I have some pretty great things lined up {re: Bust Craftacular, and Dusty Rose Vintage photoshoot} that will be keeping me busy but i'm also hoping to get some time to get back to crafting. I have a few projects in the works that I'm hoping to have up here in the next few weeks. More on that later...

We shot these pictures last night after I got home from work. Something that I never like to do as looking good after a full day's work is nearly impossible! After a quick make-up touch up, we set off to find an appropriate background. I've given up on using my tripod on the street. I need to find myself a little nook in the apartment to take my pictures when outdoor shots just aren't possible. Don't worry I''m sure I'll figure it all out soon enough.

Since it's been a while that I've put up one of these remixes, here it is! I've had this dress for a very long time now and it's still one of my faves. It's one of those no-brainer dresses that is super comfty and easy to style. I decided to try to lighten things up with the rest of the outfit as to try and make it feel like Spring over here. Soon enough...

Water for Elephants

As you might have guessed, NY is getting hit hard with rain. We've had several flood warnings but I'm happy that it was not gotten that bad just yet. What better way to spend a rainy night than tucked away in a movie theatre with a friend and snacks. That's exactly what I did last night after work. I went to see water for Elephants, a movie adaptation from the book of the same title by Sara Gruen.

Now we all know not to expect a lot out of a movie once you've read the book {and liked it} so I held back my expectations for this one but was pleasantly surprised! The picture is beautiful as are the costumes since the movie follows the Benzini Bros. circus back in 1931.The movie did a great job of intoducing the characters, the main character Jacob Jankowski {Robert Pattinson} an almost Cornell Grad Veterinary student that ends up as the circus vet , Marlena {Reese Witherspoon} the star attraction and love interest, and August {Christoph Waltz} the ringleader and Marlena's husband. I think this movie is being overshadowed by Bridesmaids right now but if you do have a chance to sit down and watch something, I'd reccomend it.

What a weekend it's been! I was very productive and got my closet in order, was able to drop off some clothing at Beacon's and in doing so, picking up a few things with my store credit! Ahh, new-ish clothes makes me happy! You guessed, it, i'm still not buying any new clothing, only trades for store credit or blog shops with money that comes from selling my own clothing through my {no longer} shop my closet. Sadly, I just don't have the time to photograph and list things anymore so I had to close up shop. The nice thing about Brooklyn, is that there is 3 re-sell places right in my neighborhood {Beacon's Closet, Buffalo Exchange and the newly opened Crossroads trading}. Going through these channels have made my life a whole lot easier. I highly suggest checking them out to see if there's a location near you, they've definitely help me keep my closet under control.

Just another reason why I put myself on a shopping ban; I bought this dress sometime last year and this is the first time I wear it. I think I was at a point where i was just buying things because they were cheap and not really because I needed them. Well, I'm happy I kept it cause I like the way this outfit came out. Whether I needed the dress or not...

Last Wednesday night I had the pleasure of attending the Seychelles Garden Party right here in NYC. The space was made up of flowers, wicker baskets, garlands, whatever you may think of when you attend a garden party. It was quite magical really. Here's what I wore to the event:

A little bit of details about our trip, just in case anyone is interested in going. We flew into Nassau on Friday morning. it was a direct flight from New York and only 21/2 hours! We took a taxi to our hotel which turned out to be exactly what you pay for, but we were already expecting that so no biggie. Once we settled and put down our bags we quickly changed and headed for the beach. Our hotel manager had reccomended we go to Paradise Island beach which is on the same Island as Atlantis, which to be honest, I had never heard about until a couple days vefore my trip....
Anyways, that beach turned out to be crazy busy and not exactly the quiet retreat we were looking for. The next couple of days were spent hoping the the local bus {$1.25} and exploring the other beaches on the Island. And basically, that's all we did! We just needed to relax and not have to be following any kind if schedule.

Ok, still no vacation pictures but you get to see my brand new...tan! I think this is the first time in a very long time that I actually have a tan...that did not come from a bottle. I did play it safe by slathering an SPF 50 from morning until late afternoon but the sun was so strong that I still managed to get some color on these pasty legs of mine.
So in lieu of this fabulous healthy glow {ok, i'm just bragging now} I decided to forgo the tights for today. I could've gone with so many colors in order to play up this black & white dress but instead used my trusty red cardigan for a mod look.

Dans la Cuisine: Tofu Scramble

I'm back! But before I can begin to show you any new Bahamas pictures I still need to unpack my camera, download and sift through all of them. So instead I have this super easy tofu scramble recipe to share with you.
We tend to forgo going out for Brunch often since there are few places that serve a vegan brunch, and the places that do well, most of them have a tofu scramble on the menu. This, my friends, is super easy to make at home. The ingredients can be swapped to suit your taste buds and the measurements can also be to revised to your liking. But if you're new to a tofu scramble, here's one to get you started.

Ingredients:

1 pkge of firm tofu (I like to use the extra firm as it has less water)
1 tbsp Braggs (or soy sauce will work)
1 tbsp olive oil
1/2 cup mushrooms, chopped
1 cup spinach
1/2 red bell pepper, chopped

1 small onion (red or yellow), finely chopped

2 garlic cloves, minced

1/2 cup cheddar "cheese", shredded

1 vegan sausage ( I like field roast brand), cut in rounds
1 tsp turmeric
2-3 tblsp nutritional yeast
1 tsp. curry powder
salt & pepper

Directions:

1. Start by draining your tofu and mashing it up in a bowl with a fork. Some chunks are ok but you basically want it to be crumbled. Add Braggs while mashing it up and mix well.

2. In a flat bottom sauce pan, heat olive oil. Throw in the garlic, and onion and saute for a few minutes. Add the vegan sausage and saute until brown. Add the tofu. Keep on medium heat until the tofu starts to get a little golden. Throw in the red pepper, mushrooms. Add your spices and the nutritional yeast. Keep on medium heat for approx. 10 minutes.

3. Add the cheese, and spinach and stir until all of the cheese is melted and the spinach is fully cooked. This should only take a few minutes. Taste and season with salt & pepper if necessary.

We like to serve this with toasted french bread, a side salad, or even a plate of homefries if we're feeling ambitious. Like I mentioned up top, this recipe is really easy to substitute for other ingredients that you might have in your fridge.

Yup, you guessed it more pictures from the weekend. As you can tell, we had a really gorgeous one! On Sunday a bunch of us got together and hit up the Brooklyn Bowl for an afternoon of bowling fun. I must say, I beat all of them with my awesome bowling skills and looked stylish doing with with my vintage bowling shoes from Japan. Yes, I take bowling a little seriously. But anyways, before leaving the house, Veronika worked a little magic with my hair and did this beautiful french braid side up do thingy. I like. Now if she can only come back to NYC whenever I'm having a bad hair day...

I was planning on having a few more posts up for this weekend, but unfortunately time is not on my side and packing for Bahamas took a little longer than expected. So with that, I wish you all a good weekend and I'll be back on Monday, hopefully with some pictures from our trip!

{Too Many pictures?}

You'll have to excuse me for the picture overload in this post but I love how these pictures came out! These were taken on Saturday night just before heading out to catch an Off-Broadway show called, Miss Abigail's Guide to Dating, Mating and Marriage. No this is not a joke,about 10 of us girls {and 2 boys} met up in Time Square to see this as we had won free tickets. And let me tell you, when you're in New York, you don't turn down anything free show! The show had some funny moments, just as much a awkward ones, but with a group of gals it could never be a boring night.

After the show we all sort of split up, Veronika and I heading back into Brooklyn to meet up with Morgan, Merl, and Jentine for a girl's night out for Morgan's belated birthday. I was so happy to have been able to meet up with all of these ladies! It was definitely one of those amazing friends, amazing times kind of weekend.

As I had mentioned, this past weekend, we had the pleasure of having Veronika over as our very first houseguest! She got in on Friday night and we had a blast right up until the very last moment she had to leave to catch her bus on Sunday night.

My last post got me thinking about all of the silk (polyester) scaves that I have accumulated over the years and don't wear so often. Whenever I'm in a thrift store, I can't help but take a look at all of the beautiful prints, and colors and always end up buying a few. Well, this one isn't vintage but I was able to find four different ways that I've worn it on this blog {which was pretty surprising}. It's just a cheap scarf picked up at Forever 21 a while ago because I really liked the black, gold, red colors. I'm sure if I really start looking through this blog, I'll find other ways on how I've worn a scarf before aside from this one.

Confession: I wore this outfit out at a show a few weeks ago but since I never took pictures, I wanted to recreate it for the blog. This is a more toned down look more suitable for daytime. For the night time look I had paired it with some ripped up black tights and black boots.

It's been a while since I wore a headband, I used to wear them all of the time last year, or was it the year before? They just seem to be a little cumbersome sometimes but maybe I just need to find the right scarves that won't slip so much.

I think it's pretty funny that you can't even tell that it was raining in these pictures. I mean, if I wanted to take a picture with an umbrella, I'd sure choose something a little more stylish than this plain old black one. Which makes me think it wouldn't be such a bad investment considering how much I'd be able to use it.

We took these pictures on our way to breakfast on Saturday. There's a place in Williamsburg called Breakfast All Day, that yes you guessed it, serves breakfast all day. The great thing is that they give you the option of making almost any item on the menu vegan, even pancakes and waffles! We strolled over there in the rain since we both didn't feel like making anything.{It was kind of a lazy morning}

I pulled on this romper that I've worn on the blog before. Paired it with some fun tights and comfortable shoes and there you have it, my weekend outfit.

As promised, here is my outfit from yesterday. Recognize this backround? We took pictures on my friend's rooftop before brunch. This is the rooftop where a few of my pictures were taken last summer. I absolutely love the view!

Since it was too hot to wear tights but my bare legs aren't exactly ready to be seen in public, I opted for this jumpsuit that I bought last year from Starr's shop, Action is the Fruit. I'm also trying to not wear boots anymore. I'm sick of them! Sandals are so much cuter and fun to wear! Well, by the end of the day the rain made its way over, thank goodness we just missed it and we're already at home napping by then.

I hope everyone had a great Sunday, whether you celebrate Easter or not. I had to run out this morning and get a few more ingredients for our Easter brunch and was pleasantly surprised at how warm it was in Brooklyn. People were walking around in tee-shirts and shorts! Just makes me realize how close we are to getting this kind of weather on a regular basis.
So we had a great little brunch with friends. The menu included scrambled tofu, banana bread, roasted potatoes & veggies, fruit pizza, and a lemon tart {the only non-vegan item}

After brunch we headed into the city to attend a photo exhibit for two of my friends that completed their photography class. The exhibit was held a Photo Manhattan, where the classes were taken, and showcased the students best 6 photos thaken through the class. I was honored that one of Nickie's photos included myself as the subject {pictured on top left side of picture below}

I asked Nickie to send me the picture that made it in the exhibit as well as a few others that we had taken that day. She needed a subject for one of the classes so I gladly volunteered. Funny thing is that the pictures that turned out the best {in my opinion} are the ones that we took after class at the subway station, heading into Brooklyn. We didn't plan on the train coming so fast and it caught me by surprise yet I didn't move. Made for some funny hair pictures!

Oh, guess who had time to take pictures today?! Actually, I took so many pictures today it started to feel a little cray cray. I'm heading out of town on Monday for work stuff so I know that I won't have time to take any outfit pictures until Friday when I get back. So as to not leaving you guys hangin' I'll have a few posts to go up. It'll be like I never left. I promise.

One of our new weekend afternoon pleasures is to head over to Champs Family Bakery and have ourselves I little vegan snack. It's just a few blocks away from us and gives us a reason to leave the house when the sun comes out! So today I thought why not take my camera and take you along!

We each had a brownie {pictured,toasted coconut chocolate cheesecake} and an Americano, {which is my coffee of choice}and then made our way back home. We're having such a great time discovering our new neighborhood. I've been working so much these past few weeks so these weekends are really special time that we get to spend together. Aside from work, I've also been trying to get back onto a regular workout schedule. I can't believe how hard it is to manage all this and keep blogging? It's really been a struggle that I hope to get sorted out fast. If you have any tips that for time management, please, i'm all ears!

{Monday Mornings}

Just a quick outfit post for you guys today {I feel like there's more and more of these happening these days} as I desperately need to catch up on some sleep. I've gone back to scheduling my posts, meaning I write them the night before I post them, just so I can have something up when all of you are waking up and drinking your morning coffee or tea. I'm just being considerate yes? And I appreciate every one of you that takes the time out of your day to read this blog. I certainly know how busy life gets but still, to have you guys come over here and see what I've got to say/wear, really means a lot.

Monday mornings are never a time when I feel like dressing up for work. In order to avoid reaching for my jeans, I try to go for something casual without compromising style. Today was a t-shirt and skirt combo. I even debated of forgoing the tights but then took a look at my pasty white legs and decided that wasn't the best idea. I need to confess that I've been holding this dress hostage for a few weeks now. It's from the Delightful Dozen and I just couldn't figure out how to wear it...until now. The only way to tone down the brightness was to pair it with navy. I accessorized with some brown accessories and thre in a purse just because I usually never use my purses in my posts. As it turn out it's actually one of my fave outfits! I can finally pass this dress on to the next lady in line.

Remix: Denim Jacket

Welcome to the 2nd edition of Remix. This time I wanted to talk about this denim jacket that ypve surely seen me where numerous times in the past couple of years I've been blogging. I'm a firm believer that everyone should own a classic blue denim jacket as it can easily be thrown over any outfit and make it look put together.
I bought mine years ago, maybe about 12 years now, at The Bay, a Canadian version of Macy*s. It has since been molded to fit me perfectly, I've taken it in on the sides to make it a little more fitted and it is just the right amount of faded right now. I don't think I can ever part with this one.

This is how comfortable one can look when some man is standing right across the street just looking at you taking your pictures. I do admit, to the non-blogging world, this may all seem a little bazarro, but come on, why would you stop whatever it is you're up to just to make someone feel uncomfortable. It think he kind of ruined it for me and my tripod outings. These are the mornings that I'm missing my peaceful backyard.

I'm really looking forward to this weekend and can't believe that tomorrow is Friday! I scheduled my much needed hair appointment on Saturday and the salon is just a few blocks away from Central Park, pretty convenient huh? Let's just hope that the weather continues to warm up like it's been trying to do all week.

When I was putting together this outfit I was scared that it would come out a little too school uniform-ish so right before leaving the house I threw on this scarf to add contrast and break up the white shirt, navy skirt look. I kind of like how both prints clash against each other. But then again, I'm not sure a red, white and blue outfit is appropriate in April?

Well, today is my mom's birthday and I already called her to wish her a happy one but I just need to mention it here as well. She spent the day babysitting my nephew and then helping my sister out with some wedding stuff, that technically, as the Maid of Honor, I should be handling. Due to living so far away from my sister, my mom has really been the one to step up and get all of these things taken care of. So a HUGE thank you for helping that Mom! And besides, I don't know the first thing about planning a wedding so I'm sure I'd be useless in that area.

Well, we just got back from our fave noodle place that's just around the corner. Now it's time to get ready for another workday tomorrow, and well, possibly time for a movie?We'll see...

Before I forget and it becomes just a hazy memory, let me recap a little bit of my weekend. Friday night was a silly night of staying in and watching documentaries found on hulu. Super fun right?

Saturday {when these pictures were taken} turned out to be a gorgeous day. We dropped off some donations at the local sally ann. and then made our way to the farmer's market. We were a little too late as most of the vendors were aready packed up but I guess that's what you get for {much needed} sleeping in.

I think coming up with weekend outfits has become my new fave. Plus it gives me a different focus. Instead of cute dressed up outfits, I try and put together comfortable yet stylish weekend wear so that I don't look like I just rolled out of bed. What's your go-to for weekend style? I'd love to know.

And yes, this is a rare occasion that you find me wearing all black! Whenever I do so, I usually need to tone it down with some browns. So here, I paired it with these super cute clogs from BC Shoes and well, you can't see it but I 'm wearing a matching brown belt.

I can't believe that it's already Sunday night and I'm just now getting to write this post. This weekend went by a little too fast and I only got to about half of the things I wanted to do. I'm glad, however, that I had time to take these pictures this morning before anything else.

We discovered this red wall by just crossing the street and walking a few doors down from where we live.

This dress is making the Delightful Dozen rounds and comes from the Online shop, Ruche {which just so happens to be my newest sponsor}. I love the collar detailing which gives the dress an ultra feminine feel. The polka dots are just plain cute too. I wanted to pair it with some fun tights, and these blue ones seem to go well with this denim vest. I really feel like you can pair any color with a block and white combo and never go wrong. {Little Doll}

After yesterday's rant about my hair, I knew that today I had to do something about my situation. I had an idea to bring out the heat rollers that I use to use before I got all layer crazy with my hair. Just a few minutes to heat up, roll them up in my hair, leave them in while getting ready for work, then take them out at the very last minute once they're all cooled down. Yup, does the trick everytime.

I pretty much love this little Holly Hobbie {my boss' name for it, not mine} outfit that I've got going on here. The longer sleeves makes this dress perfect for this colder Spring weather but the color still makes you feel bright and cheerful. Even though mother nature could calm down a little and give us a little more sun these days. The dress is from U.K. label Dahlia available on Modcloth right now. How adorable are the little crochet trims and gold buttons? I decided to not over think this outfit by adding too much to it as the dress is so sweet on its own.

Well, I'm just getting back into my regular posting schedule so I want to thank everyone for their patience while I went through this move and settling in stage. I'd love to post pictures of the new place but only when I'm 100% happy with it, and right now there are a few nooks and crannies that could use a little more love. So just hold on a little longer and I swear I'll share with you the place we now call home.

Well you can't see it in these pictures but my hair has gone from unrully to just plain ridiculous. I haven't had time to get in a proper appointment at a salon like I've been planning on doing for the past...what's it been two, three weeks now? but fear not I scheduled one in for next weekend. This top knot has been my go-to one too many times these past few weeks. I haven't been to see a professional in a very long while as some you you will remember this story that changed my whole outlook on professional haircutting. The reason why I now feel like I need to get it done "expertly" is because i'm trying to let it all grow out to normal status {as in, not rockstar hair} for my sister's wedding in June. I still haven't dyed it, bringing that count up to 6 months now. I've got some pretty gnarly roots growing in but I'm hoping that a proper cut can rectify that situation. I can safely say that my whole fringe is now 100 % my original haircolor. I get excited at just the though of one day having my very own haircolor back.

This post wasn't supposed to be about hair, but since I already ranted on that, I'll just stop now and let my outfit speak for itself. It was raining this morning so this dress got layered up with a black blzer, black tights and boots. Such an easy no-brainer for a grey morning.

Dans la Cuisine: Chickpea Picatta

I just want to start off by saying that I've never really had a non vegetarian Picatta. The original way to make it is with chicken and served with pasta but I guess I just never made it that far before becoming vegetarian/vegan. So with that said, since this recipe doesn't have chicken, nor does it contain pasta, can it really be called a Picatta?
This recipe is super easy but I suggest that you keep it for when you need to cook for friends, or a special someone as you'll knock their socks off. It's a really grown up entree and I suggest you serve it with a lovely white wine.

Now here's the recipe:

I served this dish over mashed potatoes so while they were cooking, I worked on the Picatta part.

1 tsp. olive oil
1 cup thinly sliced shallots
6 cloves of garlic, thinly sliced
2 tbl sp. breadcrumbs
2 cups vegetable broth
1/3 cup dry white wine
A dash of black pepper
A dash of dried thyme
1 16oz. can chickpeas, drained and rinsed
1/4 cup capers with a little brine
3 tbl sp. fresh lemon juice
4 cups arugula

Directions:

Preheat a large heavy bottom pan over medium heat. Saute the shallots and garlic for about 5 minutes, until golden. Add the breadcrumbs, and toast them by stirring constantly for about 2 minutes. They'll turn a few shades darker.

Add the vegetable broth, wine, pepper and thyme. Turn up the heat and bring to a rolling boil and let the sauce reduce by 1/2. This should take about 7 minutes.

Add the chickpeas and capers to heat through, about 3 minutes. Add the lemon juice and turn off the heat.

Place your arugula in a wide bowl. Place mashed potatoes on top, and ladle the Picatta over the potatoes. The arugula will wilt but this is what it's supposed to do. The potatoes aren't necessary so if you aren't using, just pour the it right over the arugula.

And there you have it, one satisfying, impressive vegan dish!

I had a few errands to run on Sunday before meeting up with a couple of friends at the NYC Vegetarian festival {which we never made it to}. Since I'm still feeling a little sick, achey, and tired, I wanted to be as comfortable as ever while still upholding some kind of standards {why, I'm not sure as we saw some girls wearing questionable tights as pants, yikes!}.

Still layering up on tights, I decided to go with the makeshift thigh high socks, cut from old tights to keep my bottom half warm. I can't believe I'm still wearing a scarf in April! I guess I could've done without it in the afternoon, when it warmed up but these days you can enver tell. Even with the sun shining, it could still be 40 degrees.

So after my errands, which included, the gym, and getting a nightstand for my side of the bed, I headed to Manhattan, to the NYC Vegetarian Festival. Little did I know that the line up was wrapped around the block and they weren't letting anyone else in. So we decided to frgo and just go get our own vegan food somewhere else. I came home, made a banana loaf and then got into bed for an early night, hoping to feel better for work.

Yesterday we had the chance to check out the farmer's market held at McCarren Park. This market goes on all year round and offers anything that is in season and locally produced. It's a great place to stock up of greens and fresh fruits, right now, apples of all kinds are being offered. Even though I started to feel a little sick on Friday ngiht, I pulled myself together on Saturday to come up with a decent outfit post.

This skirt is from a swap I did with Emily of Nudgenick. I usually don't wear plaid so I was happy to see that she had included it in the items she sent me. The nice thing about swapping is that you get to try things that you usually wouldn't think of buying for yourself. It's actually a really great, easy skirt that I think I'm going to miss. The hair was pull up into Heidi braids since there was no time to wash it and make it to the market in time.

Remix: Vintage Floral Dress

As much as I love going through my closet, deciding what to keep, what to donate..etc. I sometimes come across that one item that I've had forever {in my case, a few years} that I just can't part with. Since I've been blogging for a little while now, I've accumulated numerous outfits with these items worn in many ways.
I decided what better way to show a remix, than to put all of them together in one post.

For my first item, I'm remixing a very special Vintage floral dress. To the eye this just looks like another dress, but this particular one was bought on my very first weekend living in Brooklyn. I remember walking around my new neighborhood and stumbling across a little flea market. I spotted this dress and knew that it would fit, I didn't even try it on. I wish I had taken a "before" picture since I had to hem it quite a few inches and it had long sleeves. And now, here are the various ways I've worn it through the years:

Just a quick outfit post for you tonight. I'm on my way to the gym and still need to pick up my laundry that we dropped off a few days ago! Where does the time go? I just got back from the FIT Museum to check out the installment of Vivienne Westwood, 1980-89. It's pretty amazing that these things are just available to you in NY and for free. She definitely blew my mind with her innovative creations starting from a punk rock boutique. It's only up for two more days so I encourage you if you're in New York, to stop by.

This dress is from a Delightful Dozen swap. I saw it on Jen {original owner} and I knew that it was going to be a tad long on me but was up for trying it anyways. As long as I wear a little heel I feel like it could pass. Soemtimes its good to be a little more modest. Then again, when am I ever scandalous? I can't even wear a dress without wearing bicycle shorts underneath.

You've probably guessed that I haven't gone to get my hair cut yet, but I am more and more thinking of growing out these layers! I think I'm just at that point where I need a change. Good thing that I have a hairstylist friend in my circle of girlfriends that will take care of me. Now if only I could spare the hour it would take to actually get it done. Oh boy.

{A little hello}

Oh hi there! Sorry I've been away for a while but you know how it goes. So this past week I've finally joined a gym! Back in January, the gym that I was going to was closing and my membership had expired but I wanted to wait until we moved in order to renew. Last Sunday was finally that day. It's definitely helped my energy level but man is it ever hard to schedule in when you already have a busy schedule. I'm tryingt o go at least 4 times a week for now, we'll see how that goes.

This was just an easy outfit to pull together as the weather is still a little cold. I'm trying to layer up new combinations with the clothing that I already have. I'm just finishing my third month of not shopping and I have to say that it's still not really an issue. I do get tempted when I see a good bargain but I just keep reminding myself that deals will always be there....and do I really need it? Probably not.

So there's just a little update for now. I still have to head out and drop of laundry and get some food in this house for the week so I'll end it here. Have a great night!

{One Sunday}

I'm posting this now in order to remind myself {and fellow NYCers} that not too long ago there were signs of Spring. As I type this I'm trying not to pay attention to the hail that sounds like it's going to break through my window and thunder that sounds just like my stomach at lunch time. Oh how I love to be dramatic! But really, this is gross.

Thank goodness we had a gorgeous day on Sunday and I have these pictures to serve as proof that one day soon it will be sunny.

I loved this building that was painted all white! So rare to find in Brooklyn that I wonder how often they need to maintain it graffiti free. I'm really loving pulling out more casual, laid-back outfits for the weekends. It's very unfussy and easy going that I don't feel out of place no mater where I go.

So let's see where to begin, we wandered up to Bedford St in Williamsburg and stopped quickly into Monk Vintage. Not for myself of course, as I'm on month #3 of no shopping and still holding strong. After that, we made stops at both Buffalo Exchange and Beacon's Closet, where Soner found some sweet aviators. It was my first time really shopping in the guys section and made me realize that when it comes to guys style I'm pretty clueless. After the "shopping" we stopped into Brooklyn Bowl for a quick drink and really just to use their restrooms {shhh}. Heading back home, we couldn't resist ducking into Union Pool and snapping a few photobooth shots. The first one was a little lame but we got it right the second time. As if that wasn't enough for one day we decided to check out Champs, a vegan bakery that all of our friends were talking about that is supposedly right around the corner from our house. Well, they weren't kidding, it might not be around the corner but about 4 blocks away hides this adorable little corner bakery full of vegan pastries. We grabbed a few things to go and enjoyed them at home while finishing the last few things that are left to unpack. That, my friends, is one.great.day.

Dans la Cuisine: Vegan Tomato Rosemary Scones

A little while ago, I made a few treats for some guests we were having over for a brunch/ birthday gathering. Since I know that not everybody has a sweet tooth like myself and Soner, I tried to find some breakfast item that was more savory than sweet. I came across this recipe for these vegan Rosemary & tomato Scones that were just the perfect addition to the spread. The recipe can be found in Vegan Brunch.
Servings: 12 scones

Ingredients:

3 cups all-purpose flour
2 tablespoons baking powder
1/4 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon ground pepper
1/3 cup olive oil
1 14oz. can tomato sauce
1 tsp. apple cider vinegar
2 tblsp. fresh chopped rosemary

Directions:

Preheat oven to 400 degrees F. Lightly grease a baking sheet.

In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, sugar, salt, and pepper.

Measure the olive oil in a large measuring cup, and whisk in the tomato sauce, vinegar, and rosemary. You can mix it all directly in the measuring cup as to not dirty another dish.

Make a well in the center of the flour and add the wet ingredients. Glently mix, using a wooden spoon. Once the batter is loosely holding together, lightly flour a clean work surface and turn your dough onto it. Gently knead until a soft dough forms; don't overmix it or it will become gummy! If the dough seems sticky, add a little flour as you knead, until it's easier to work with.

Divide dough in two and form each section into a 6-inch disk. Slice each disk into 6 pieces, {think pizza}. Place scones on a baking sheet and bake for 14 to 16 minutes. Remove the scones from the oven and let cool on a plate or cooling rack. Serve either warm or at room temperature.

{Friday in the Sun}

Friday turned out to be a really great day. You know how much I've been busy these past few weeks? Well, I was finally able to take this past Friday off. Turns out mother nature was on my side and decided to give NY temperatures around the mid 60's. I know we should've spent the day unpacking and getting stuff set up but we just couldn't resist. Here are a few pictures from our day.

We took our bikes out for the first time this year and rode around Williamsburg, first stopping at the park to enjoy the sun. We then headed to this cute little sandwich place called The General Store where you can build your own sandwich. After we were plenty full, we ducked around the corner to take some quick outfit pictures. Afterwards, we hit up this bar called Miller's and had some drinks, since it was happy hour and still plenty sunny. Today we're finally getting stuff up on the walls and I'm almost done putting away all of my clothes! Yay for progress!!

I don't have too much to say today so this one will be a very short post. This dress is making its rounds with the Deligthful Dozen ladies. Have you been following the blog? There's asome pretty amazing things going on over there. I'm so excited that it's gotten such a great response! For this dress, I wanted to try and tone it down a little so I paired it with different greys. I definitely love the pop of color though. Oh and the first thing I did this morning was trim my bangs! So you'll see that in my next post. I just can't do the side sweep.

{All Alone}

I will start off by saying that I have no idea what I'm doing with my hair. I'm trying to let the shorter layers from the top grow out and eventually get a "real" {not with my own scissors} hair cut. You see, my sister's wedding is at the begining of June and I'd like to have a somewhat tame hairstyle. I'll already be standing out with the tattoos adorning my body so I figure this is the least I can do. I'm also trying to get back to my natural hair color so I haven't dyed my hair since last September {half a year, yeah!}. So this is where I stand, with an outgrown fringe and layers hairstyle and a somewhat two tone color. I need help. I think it's time to go for that professional cut that I've been avoiding like the plague. Wish me luck.

Since the weather is a little warmer these days, I'm trying to lighten up the colors of my outfits. I bought this blouse a very long time ago, back in December when I was in Canada. I had left it up there due to an overflowing bag but then brought it back with my in January. I love the print and the fact that it has a little tie at the collar. It's definitely a vintage polyester so I'm not sure how great it's going to be come actual warm weather so I'm glad I chose just the right time for it.

Oh, and ps, I took these pictures with my tripod this morning, ON THE STREET! I guess you can sorta of tell how uncomfortable I am, but I think I just need a little more practice!

Just thought I'd let you all know, I've been unpacking like a mad woman in order to be able to put together a decent outfit for this blog. These past days has been more like, grab what you find kind of outfits which to be honest, aren't at all blogworthy. I got back from Vancouver on Saturday morning {red eye} , slept, and got my closet in order. Sunday was a little more unpacking but then we headed out to lunch and hit up K-mart to pick up a few apartment necessities.

Although this outfit doesn't reflect it, I have some pretty exciting news to share! Modcloth has named me one of their Blogger of the Moment! I've honestly been a fan of Modcloth ever since I started blogging so this is a huge honor. You can check out the interview I did with them up on their blog. In honor of this title, they've named this adorable little romper after my blog! It's absolutely gorgeous and I can't wait to wear it out this Summer as soon as it starts to warm up. The print is even prettier in person and has that vintage look to it which I'm totally into.

Just a super quick hello to let you all know that our move went fairly well. We could've done without the rain that lasted all day but we powered through it and got it done right before 5pm,which is when we had to return the U-Haul. Now we're living amongst boxes and are scrambling to find a decent outfit in the mornings before heading off to work. My goal is to have everything unpacked by April 1st.

Hi guys, I feel like I'm cheating by posting this today as it's actually from last Sunday. If I were to post what I'm wearing today you'd see jeans, sweatshirt and undone hair, mabe make up but not even sure about that one. Today is moving day {finally}. So I'm going to be a little busy bee in the net couple of days with limited internet access. Our internet should get hooked up by Wednesday but I just found out that I'm going to Vancouver for a couple days to get some work done. Does my life ever slow down? Anyways, enjoy your Sunday!

Before heading out to Manhattan, we stopped at my local Bagel place on 5th Avenue and got ourselves some sandwiches. They were taking quite a long time with our order and I couldn't figure out why. Then, when I unwrapped my bagel I saw that they had cut it in 4 little pieces. It was quite considerate of them.

Ok, I feel like i'm in the home stretch right now. Only a few more days to go before I can finally live normally and not amongst all of these boxes. I have to say that moving is not fun and I've only really begun. When it's not one thing that stressing you out ( find a place to live) it's another (figuring how to pack up your life in boxes). But there's definitely the light at the end of the tunnel and that means that me and my boyfriend will no longer be spending over half an hour getting to each others houses on a daily basis. And well, there's a lot more great things attached to it, like a better neighborhood and lots more places to eat but that i'll tell you more of when I'm finally there.

This outfit is made up of a mish mash of things. This sweater is vintage and you've probably seen it on the blog before. The skirt is from a Delightful Dozen swap, so you know what that means? You can see how the other members have worn it over on the delightful dozen blog. Which, by the way received over 500 hundred new followers in one day! Now that's how you throw a launch party! I knew I had some walking around today as we've been very busy at work checking out our new Kensie store locations so I threw on these little booties and called it a day. Thanks for everyone's well wishes on my move. I know I must be pain always talking about it but I swear so many things will be so much better after, including more time for posting on the blog!

Yes, I'm still taking outfit pictures in my backyard. We were planning on moving this weekend but midway throught he week we found out that the tenant that is curerntly in the spot we're moving into wasn't planning on getting out until Monday. Who does that? Personally, I much rather move over the weekend than leaving it until a Monday but I guess not everyone is on a Monday to Friday schedule. So, instead I spent Saturday packing away, and Sunday went into the city with my man and strolled through Central Park, and stopped into the Met for a quick look. We had a delicious lunch at Candle cafe, another amazing vegan place in the city.

This outfit is from last week but I didn't have time to post it until now. I like this color combination and the tights add a little texture since both top and skirt are solid. I usually like to mix it up with a least one print but this is keeping it a little more simple. Looking at these pictures, I'm happy to report that the snow has since melted! Let's cross our fingers that it stays that way. Especially for the move next weekend!

Since we've been so busy with our upcoming move, my guy and I didn't really have time to celebrate Valentines day. Now it was really fine with me but we kind of wanted to do something since this was the first one we were spending together. (Cue "awwwws" here). Anyways, we came up with a plan to do brunch at The Organic Grill ( yes, again) since apparently they have the best tofu omelette that I had not yet tried.

It turned out to be such a gorgeous sunny day! But don't be fooled, I was freezing taking these pictures without my coat on.

For my outfit, I did a little remix by pairing this dress under my skirt.

This was right before digging into my omelette. Look at that face. I was excited. You can choose up to three ingredients and any kind of cheese. I went with kale, mushrooms, soy cheddar cheese with a side of vegan sausage. And yes, it was as amazing as it looks. After brunch we just couldn't stop there, although we probably should've. Since we were in the neighborhood, we stopped by Babycakes and stocked up on some treats to bring back with us and munch on while we packed.

We got back on the train and made our way back to Brooklyn. I haven't seen him since! Haha, no really, we've both been at each our own places this week packing up and getting all the last details done before joining forces in Williamsburg.

When I wore this outfit to work the other day my boss said to me halfway thorugh the day: "When you got dressed this morning, were you thinking about the clouds? or the angels? the virgin Mary?". I tried to not get too defensive and wanted to hear what else he thought about my outfit before pleading my case. Well, turns out I didn't have to. He knew exactly what I was going for. I wanted to tone down the airy, chiffon girlyness of the dress by pairing it with black tights and my Seychelles booties. He got it. He loved it. Pheww. I still have a job. (Haha, just kidding. The fashion industry isn't THAT harsh.)

This dress is from my swap with Emily. This is the second light blue item she swapped with me and I'm begining to think that I've been missing out. I don't think I own any baby blue-ish color in my wardrobe. Just another reason why I love swaps so much. It gets you thinking out of your comfort zone and gets you to wear things that you wouldn't have normaly thought looked good on you. So yeah, I guess I'm saying that blue is my color. Hehe.

These pictures are from my blogger brunch meet-up from a couple of weekends ago. Veronika ( i heart this lady) was so nice to offer to take all of our outfit pictures. I have to say, being photographed on the street by a real person is kind of intimidating when you are used to your enclosed backyard/ tripod/self-timer trio., I guess I'm going to have to get use to it though considering that this could be the last week I have in that backyard. Yes, as I'm writting this, I'm not even sure if I'll be moving this weekend or the next yet. Talk about stressful right?

Since it was Sunday I wanted to wear something casual yet not completely dressed down. I found this skirt at Beacon's not too long ago and was able to snatch it up with my store credit. Not breaking the rules! I think it'll be a versatile piece come Spring time when I can wear it with some cute brown sandals and a tank.

Well, I've got some more packing to do so this is where it ends, friends. Oh and if you've noticed, I'm trying to smile a little more with my teeth. Just making a conscious effort to look a little more natural. That's all.

Dans la cuisine: Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups

At the beginning of this month we celebrated my boyfriend's birthday with a little gathering of a few friends. He was heading out of the country a couple days right after so I didn't feel like a cake was very practical (unless we ate it ALL that day). When I asked him what he'd like in lieu, he said something with peanut butter. Umm, a man after my own heart. I love the stuff. In fact, I keep a jar of it in my desk at the office. Enough said.

I remembered reading somewhere that Alicia Silverstone had made her own vegan version of Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups so I started my little search. This was the first time I ever made them and they were absolutely delicious, even better than the original but that's just my thoughts. Try them out for yourself.

Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups

Ingredients (makes 12 cups)

1/2 cup Earth Balance butter

3/4 cup crunchy peanut butter

3/4 cup graham cracker crumbs

1/4 cup maple sugar or granulated sweetener ( I used pure cane sugar)

1 cup non dairy chocolate chips or carob chips

1/4 soy milk

1/4 cup chopped pecans (optional)

Preparation:

1. Line a 12 cup muffin tin with paper liners

2. Melt butter in small saucepan over medium heat.

3. Stir in pb, graham cracker crumbs, and sugar. Mix well

4. Remove the mixture from heat. Evenly divide the mixture among the muffin cups

5. Combine the chocolate and milk in another pan. Stir over medium heat until the chocolate

has melted.

6. Spoon the chocolate evenly over the peanut butter mixture.

7. Top with nuts if using.

8. Place in refrigerator to set at least 2 hours before serving.

Of course, my mind is a blank right now and I don't have much to write. I'm going to be enjoying the day I have off by scavenging for boxes and hopefully start packing up for my move. Coffee is ready and I just saw that there was snow on the ground. Yup, looks like I 'm staying in today. Anybody care to join me? Come on, it'll be fun, I swear! Ok, I know packing and moving always sucks. Here's my part 2 from last weekends blogger meet up extravanganza! I arranged a little brunch meet up at The Organic Grill on First ave. with Meg, Veronika and Rachel. Little did I know the trains we going to be ridiculous and I ended up being half an hour late! Me! I'm usually NEVER late to be quite honest with you. I try very hard o be on time and even early to everything. Anyways, the girls had time to get a table and some coffee in while they waited for me.

Once we finished brunch, which was delicious by the way. I definitely recommend The Organic Grill for vegetarian/vegans looking for a place in the city. We moved on to Brooklyn, where I took the ladies shopping at Beacon's Closet. Where else would I take them??? I was very good at keeping with my no buying rule ( which some of you have asked if I'm not buying ANYTHING or if it's just not NEW, to answer your question, i'm not buying ANYTHING, just swapping or selling). Right before going in, we stopped for outfit pictures.

{Some news}

Why hello there! I've been trying to get this post up for a few days now but have been non-stop busy until now. I wore this on Tuesday as I felt like I needed to finally get out of my rut and put a little effort in my dress. I do have some good news though, I'm moving in two weeks! Yup, no more backyard shenanigans for me. Huge, right? I'm not sure where I'll be able to take my outfit pictures in the new place but I'm sure I'll find a way. Oh and to add to this news, I'm moving in with my boyfriend....blowing your mind yet? I know I don't talk about personal stuff so much over here but we're really stoked! Part of the reason why I've been so busy has been all the commuting back and forth to each others places. We both live in Brooklyn but the trains just take forever.

Well, as of March 1st I'm hoping that my schedule opens up a little and I'll have way more time to get back to blogging. It'll be a crazy next tweo weeks as I need to pack this apartment up but I kind of think I'm a pro at packing since I've done it so many times. Wish me luck!

{Friends you've never known}

Like I had mentioned on Friday, this past weekend was full of blogger meet ups. I couldn't have been happier to see Veronika again, and this time she brought friends, Stephanie and Rachel along. As if that wasn't enough, the lovely Hannah joined us as well with friend in tow. I'm always really excited to meet up with other bloggers especially when we've worked up a little online friendship beforehand. It just makes things that much easier when you do see each other face to face and it's like you're all just friends reuniting again.

We started the night off with a little grub at Spitzers in the Lower East side. During the day this place is awesome, with it's 40 different kinds of beer on tap, one can only dream of tasting them all. At night...um..not so much. I'd say eat and get out of there. And that's just what we did.

We made our way down Ludlow St and ended up at The Dark Room. The place wasn't busy yet so we grabbed a spot to fit all 7 of us and continued snapping pics and chatting away.

We even started our own little dance party.

After a while, we decided to take the party elsewhere. At this point it was approaching 3am so there was only one place to go. L.I.T.

Dans la cuisine: Quinoa & Tofu wrap

When I talked about starting to chronicle my food adventures, this was not the type of meal I thought I'd be sharing. I've been following recipes from Veganomicon, The Kind Diet and The Garden of Vegan for a couple of months now but this one is one of my own creations...muah hahaha.

All kidding aside, I made this one night by throwing whatever I had in my fridge together. Yes, these are actually ingredients I have laying around. Since it turned out so delicious, and I actually made the same thing the very next night, I decided it was blogworthy.

Quinoa and tofu wrap

What you'll need (keep in mind this is definitely negotiable depending on what sort of stuff you have already):

1x whole wheat tortilla wrap

1/2 cup quinoa (uncooked)

cubed tofu
braggs, or soy sauce

1/2 cup kale

3 mushrooms

1 garlic clove

1/4 tomato, chopped

1/4 avocado, chopped

vegan cheese (optional)

1 tblsp veganaise

1. Cook the quinoa as directed on package. Quinoa is such a great alternative to rice and it cooks in way less time.

2. While quinoa is cooking, saute your tofu and garlic in olive oil until it starts to brown. Add a splash of Braggs seasoning or soy sauce for flavor.

3. Add mushrooms and kale and saute until kale starts looking like it's wilting. (I'm really not that great of a chef am i?)

4. Heat your tortilla wrap for a few minutes in a toaster oven (or seconds in a microwave).

5. Add all remaining ingredients on the tortilla and wrap it up!

Now sit back and enjoy. Save the leftover tofu and quinoa mixture for your lunch tomorrow.

{The Proof}

It's been just over a month since I decided to share with the world {readers} my resolution to not buy anything new in 2011. As promised, I told you that I'd update you with my thoughts, observations, and maybe even frustrations that I encounter along the way.

I've been too busy to shop. This is a good thing since the temptation hasn't even been there! Well, once when I found myself in Urban Outfitters but I stayed strong.
I still have so many articles of clothing that I have not yet worn! This dress is proof! I received this dress as a gift from this lady back in September {I think} and this is the first time I wear it, 4 months later. Please don't judge me.
My closet {or non closet} space is still overloaded with stuff that it simply cannot hold anything more. I've been meaning to go through it and purge about 30% or more of it really soon.
I find it hard going on twitter as every 4th or 5th tweet is someone tweeting about a new shoe/purse/designer collection. I rather live in oblivion and think that no one else is buying new pretty things this year.

So those are just a few things that are on my mind right now. I'm sure some things will change as the months go by. There's still a million things that I could add but I'll just have to save them for another post!

So I guess you guys aren't a fan of my last post. You can hear the crickets down there but that's ok, I think you'll really like this one. I finally put something together that I really like AND is season appropriate. Wait, um, I'm wearing shorts. I guess it's just something that I like. I realized that I haven't been taking advantage of any shorts lately. Last year, I'm pretty sure I was wearing them year round. So why not now? I just forgot about them. But they're back. Paring shorts with thick tights, a fuzzy sweater and of course this super cute collar I picked up from Modcloth. How perfect is it that the maroon velvet is the exact same color of the argyle print in the sweater? I think this is a match made in fashion heaven.

Yikes, almost a week since my last post! So sorry guys but real life has definitely been keeping me busy. I was in Ottawa, ON from Friday to Monday, babysitting my nephew with my mom while my sister and fiance were off to Jamaica. I got home pretty late on Monday night and then made my way to work Tuesday. Yesterday I made an amazing vegan {of course} meal for me and my man that I want to post for you sometime as it turned out so delicious and will most likely become a weekly staple.

So this brings me to this Dusty Rose Vintage photoshoot post that I get to share with you guys today! Remember back on this Sunday when me and my ladies got together and did a photoshoot? Well the pictures are starting to surface! Yay. I love seeing the outcome of these days as we have so much fun and never really have the time to go through the pictures afterwards.

This was my most favorite sweater that when styling the shoot, I absolutely volunteered myself to wear it. A little selfish, yes maybe, but I love to fuzzy softness and that collar! Yup, all around greatness. After this outfit I kind of took the backseat and stuck to getting the girls ready for the next outfit changes and keeping everything on track. I'm sure I have a few more pictures of the photoshoot to come and i'm sure they'll come in handy on days like these when taking outfit pictures in the morning is just not possible!

At the beginning of the month when I announced to the (internet) world that I would not buy any new clothing in 2011 I had also mentioned that I'd be down for clothing swaps as to keep my wardrobe fresh and exciting. Well, the lovely Emily from The Daily Fashionista heard my cry for help and offered up some items to exchange temporarily. I boxed up a few items, including some special requests that she had seen me previously wear, and she did the same. When I received my loot I couldn't believe how accurate she got my style. This polka dot blouse is in fact, one of her items. I've been looking for ascot blouses in every Value Village I thrift at and always come out empty handed (with blouses that is). And I realized that I don't have a lot of polka dot anything in my wardrobe*. I put together this secretary-ish outfit on a whim one morning this week since my original outfit didn't exactly pan out, but I was more than happy with the results!

My posting will be a little spotty the next few days as I'm heading up to Canada! Gosh, that sounds weird since it's really only 2 hour flight but yes, going to be in Ottawa until Monday! I'll try and sneak in a post during my stay and maybe even a video post? Anything you'd like for me to talk about? I need ideas as to not be so boring as my last one.

This dress, making the D12 rounds belongs to Annie from Time Enough for Drums. I'm so in love with it. It's easy fitting and cute peter pan collar was so easy to style that I wish I owned more dresses like this. It's also loose fitting to hide that "winter weight" I've been wearing my hair up a lot more since the multiple layers and scarves have been turning the hair at the nape of my neck into one big dreadlock. I'm sure i'm not the only one that gets this but it's really annoying when I only realize this halfway thru the day and the back of my head looks like one big clumpy mess. Has anyone even figured out how to avoid this? Please help me.

{Like Usual}

Ok, so I promise not to talk about this shitty weather. . What now? Ok, well I got this beautiful top from Modcloth as I really need a reason to wear more pants. For a while there I fell into a rut of wearing t-shirts and jeans. Not my finest hour but I'm trying to change that. Having more girly silk, flowy tops like this one, I feel make it more acceptable to wear a basic bottom as long as your dressing it up on top.

I'm still trying to organize my closet and take inventory of what I have and what I haven't worn yet. It's been an ongoing process all month actually. I never really thought that I had that much stuff. But let me tell you, I'm a master at organization so I kind of fooled myself.

Another thing that has taken up more of my time is perfecting my cooking skills. I've been trying to make more of an effort to keep a well stocked pantry and cook most of my dinners. It really helps when your trying to save money, although I sometimes feel like the only New Yorker that uses her kitchen. It's definitely not the norm here, therefore making it harder to stick to it. I'd be happy to share more of my kitchen adventures on I.G. if you're interested. Would you be? I know there are a lot of food blogs out there or even just blogs that take beautiful pictures of food but maybe it's somethign that I can add more of.

{The Lost Outfit}

If you paid close attention to these pics you'd have realized that they're not recent. Nope, I took these back in November and never posted them! Well, since the weather has been all rain, slush and snow these past few weeks, this comes as a welcome surprise as I haven't exactly been pulling out all stops with my outfits.

Since this sweater already creates so much volume, my thought process was to pull back the hair in order to balance everything out. I haven't worn my hair like this is a very long time. In fact, I have previously posted a tutorial on milkmaid braids that you can find here. It really is super easy.

So this week was the week that everyone decided to mail their stuff out to me. I got so many Delightful Dozen dresses in that I'm kind scared at how I'm supposed to be getting all cute in them in this stupid weather. Really though, I've been looking like heck at work too because I've been working a little overtime. So why get dressed up is what I say. Maybe this is just what I need to get me out of this rut. It also helps me with my "No New Buying Ban" so I guess I shouldn't really complain.

This dress, who's original owner is Starr, is amazing. Although it's a tad too big for me, I didn;t want to pass up such a beautiful print. Feathers are sooo in now, didn't ya know? Anyways, I wanted to turn this dress into something playful (tights!) and keep the vintage vibe (sunglasses). Is it weird that I have sunglasses on in an outfit pic? Does anyone else do this? I kind of felt weird but you see, it was actually sunny when I took these pictures. It was my favorite time of day right at dusk when everything is cast in a orange/yellow light. How many layers does it take to create an outfit? Well, let's count shall we? dress, skirt (worn under dress), top, tights, scarf, boots. Done. Well, it doesn't sound like a lot but when you're dressing in the morning it sure feels like a lot. I wore this on Friday as I thought it was a very "day to night" look. I was meeting friends after work so I wanted to make sure that I wouldn't have to come home afterwards. On those kinds of days I always try to wear black. As you know, Black os not one of my go-to colors so yes, I consciously make an effort. Well, here's my second remix of the year with these items worn in the past. I'm still in the process of cleaning out my closet so my "no new buy" ban has been as easy as ever. Well, except for when I was shopping on Saturday with my guy and wandered into UO. I'm proud to say that I walked out empty handed. I didn't even try anything on. Now that's will power.

{A feather in your hair}

Another outfit from last week. There's a few things I want to talk about about concerning this outfit: 1. The feather headband was a gift from Elizabeth from Delightfully Tacky. A few of us Delightful Dozen girls decided to do a little Secret Santa exchange and funny enough, Elizabeth and I had each other! I sent her a cute pink knitted headband and she sent me 2 of these amazing feather headbands. The colors of this one matched my outfit just perfectly. You can see what the other ladies received in their exchanges, on our facebook page, here. 2. This dress was sent to me from lulus.com. They were nice enough to contact me to see if there was anything I'd like to try from their site. After much deliberation I chose a few great pieces. This dress is great because of the long sleeves. Such a sucker for longer sleeves!It also has a great back V shape which makes it feel ultra feminine. In order to not freeze these days I've been doubling up on tights. For this particular look I paired a black pair with a slight square pattern under a pair of maroon ones. Nice and toasty, until half way through the day when both bands are digging into your stomach.

Well, I'm just recovering from the weekend and bracing myself for another crazy work week. Fear not, I'm scheduling posts as to not dissapear again!

{I'm Back}

Yoah, sorry I disappeared on you guys this week. Life has certainly been kicking my butt and I've had no time to post! Don't worry though, I have been taking my outfit pictures in the mornings so I have a few posts that will be scheduled just so I can catch up. Let's take this outfit for instance, I think it might be from last Tuesday. I really just wanted something comfortable so I usually go with these cotton skirts that can pretty much go with anything. I'd say its probably one of my key pieces in my closet.

Anybody else over this weather yet? All I want to do is stay inside and sip on some hot mulled cider and watch movies. It's terrible how anti-social I become in the winter.

{For the Camera}

Well two Sundays in a row now that I get to hang out with my favorite ladies! I am a happy gal. Here are some pictures form yesterday. We decided it was about that time to get together and have a proper Dusty Rose Vintage photoshoot! Oh man, these shoots are so much fun. Cocktails, chips, dips, and lots of Vintage clothing everywhere! These girls are a riot especially when you get us all together and make us do funny poses in front of the camera. Can't wait until the next one ladies!

About two weeks ago, I headed over the to the Dusty Rose HQ and helped style all the looks before hand. This saved us sooo much time during the shoot. All outfits preplanned and coordinated.

Now that we have a real life hairdresser in our midst, we took full advantage and all got our hurrs did.

Our hairdresser is one of the only non-bloggers. It was her first time in front of the camera. We tried to encourage her.

I ran into Nikka randomly one day and told her that she HAD to join us for this shoot! And well, look who showed up!

We ended with these ridiculous 90's color blocked silk blouses. I think by this time we we're all a little delirious.

And just to show you guys how much of a ham I am in front of the camera I'm posting this one ( and will probably regret it later) You're just lucky that I don't do this for my everyday shoots, cause god knows I want to!
