A feminine structure

I'm posting this in a rush as I'm sitting in the airport's Porter lounge on a very short layover from Ottawa to New York. This lounge is amazingly new and offers free wifi, drinks and snacks. Luckily I've had my laptop with me and am able to make a quick post before hoping on the plane. The reason why I want to get this posted now is to allow myself time to unpack and re-packs, eat and then get to bed as soon as I get home as I leave tomorrow for a 7am flight to Vancouver.

This jacket is the epitome of well strcutured garments. The details and seams that make this jacket so amazing are so well tailored I was instantly attracted to it. I paired it with my obi belt to add a little waist definition and a fitted skirt to balance the bold shoulders. I absolutely love how girly yet strong and simple this piece is.

Timeless Pendleton

So I made it Canada safe and sound and have been spending quality time with the family. I've already made a trip to the local Value Village, where I stocked up on a few (4 pairs) of shoes, 2 skirts, and a few dresses. They're currently either hanging to dry, or on their way to the dry cleaners so that I can wear them as soon as I get back.

As I've mentioned before, my outfits that I've been posting while I'm away have all been pre-shot using pieces from Dusty Rose Vintage. This is one of my favorites, probably because its so fitting for this season. This jacket is gorgeous and belting it made look fitted (I loved the little duck belt). These wool shorts could basically be paired with anything (see previous post). It's too bad they were one size too small or I wouldn't have let them go!

Time for breakfast, and then a little more thrift store shopping!

All dressed up.

If I was actually going to be celebrating Thanksgiving (which btw has already passed in Canada) I'd probably plan to get a little dressed up. Probably, go for something like this little number. A cute lace top with a nude lining and a pair of flouncy shorts (yes, those are shorts!). I'm set to leave for Canada in a little bit and quite excited (as you can tell since it's all I've talked about this week). I swear I'll have more interesting things to talk about later on in the week, like thrift store purchases, loving being back in Canada, not having to cook for myself (right dad?)..etc...

Proud to be a Dusty Rose

For the past few weeks I've been working on a little collaboration with the online shop Dusty Rose Vintage. I've been a fan of theirs ever since I spotted them on chictopia and was happy to find out that they're based right here in Brooklyn!
I met up with Renae, one half of the company, at their Williamsburg studio to basically play dress up. Racks upon racks of vintage clothing at my disposal to take home and style up to my liking. Who wouldn't want that?
Since I'm not that thrilled about what i was wearing today, I'm posting one of the outfits I put together using an item from their shop which you can findon Etsy. So if you like the item, you get the chance to actually buy it! I've included the links below.

I grabbed this sweater's cropped and for some reason I love buying crop tops and never wearing them. Honestly. I think I've acquired 5 this past summer and wore 2 of them. This little number was intriguing though and fun to style up. I paired it with a cotton/spandex skirt, peep toe tights and heels. Topped it off with a little high bun and voila, I'd be ready for a night out. Well, that is if I went out more often.

This collaboration couldn't have come at a better time since I'll be away for the next couple of weeks. I have a whole lot of looks stored away that I'm dying to show you all so if you see the picket fence background you'll know that it's most likely a Dusty Rose Vintage look. I will try to post some current outfit posts, that is, if I find a suitable spot and can coerce a family member into being my photog. (tripod is staying in BK)
It's going to be a fun couple of weeks.

The cat, the blogger and the tripod.

See what I was trying to reference with today's title? The lion, the witch and the wardrobe anyone?? I had a little audience for today's photoshoot. Its not the first time I discover this little kitty in my yard. I think he belongs to the nieighbors but I guess I'm just that much more entertaining.

Not much to blog about today, I'm really looking forward to my Ottawa trip on Wednesday. Did I also mention that I'll be in Vancouver next Monday? That's right 2 Canada trips within the span of 2 weeks. I'm looking forward to both actually. I think its just this time a year when I get a little antsy and need a change of scenery. This time last year I was on my way to Paris! O.k, I know Ottawa is NOT Paris.

As for my outfit; what do we have here? another kensie dress?? surprise surprise. You know I think this sudden surge of kensie clothing infiltrating my wadrobe is due to the fact that I'm cutting back on shopping and am trying to find stuff I already own and well, being at kensie for over 4 years now...a girl can't help it! Oh and the purse is from the Score!swap I was talking about over the weekend. Isn't it great? There's a stamp inside it that says it's from Saks Fifth Avenue and made in Canada (just like me!). I tend to have good luck finding things with a Saks tag, just like the cardigan I wore here.

Winner! kensie Goodies giveaway

Congratulations to JillieBeanie from Spoils of Wear! She has won the tote bag filled with the kensie swag.

Thank you to everybody that entered. I really do wish that I could give everyone one of my readers something back. I really appreciate all of your support.

Oh and Idée Géniale got a makeover last night. Do we like the new look? Chris created my new header and I'm absolutely in love with it. There might be some little tweaks here in there in the next couple of days, like playing around with the colors but I thought it was high time we see some change around here.

You'll find salvation at the end of the track

Walking back to the subway station after the swap, we spotted these train tracks that were no longer in use. Naturally, Nickie and I, both took out our cameras and started snapping away. I love finding new locations to take my pictures; if only I was more adventurous to take out my tripod on the regular and use the nyc backdrops at my disposal. One day.

Dress}kensiegirl, also worn here

Now about the swap. From the looks of it, the turn out was pretty good. The was a line up coming in and even around 5pm when we were leaving, the line was even longer. There was clothing, music, books, shoes, and even a rather odd little corner with boxes full of panties, scaves, and belts, odds and ends.

Now, I'm not sure if you've ever been to a swap but the basis is: grab, then look. So as I grabbed away at anything that caught my eye, I barely had the time to look if it was even my size. Now that I'm home, I realize that the size 11/12 mod skirt and the XXL leopard cardigan will not quite make it to my wardrobe. I did manage to find a very cute vintage, granny looking purse, a long black with floral print dress and some pastel pink pants.
Here are a few more pictures of my day.

Yesterday, catch-up. Today, swap.

This is what I wore yesterday. I only took the pics last night after getting home from work and then had to get some stuff in order, then run right back out to go meet up with Nickie for some drinks. I read that there was a new bar in the neighborhood that served hot mulled cider (with your choice of rum or whiskey) so Nickie and I went to check it out. Turned out to be a really great place with great service and good atmosphere. We found two seats at the bar and proceeded to fill each other in with the last two weeks of our lives. We usually spend every weekend together but due to unforseen circumstances we've had some time away from each other. At the end of the night we pretty much deemed it our new winter hangout.

Now if you'll excuse me, my coffee is ready and I have a few things planned for my day that I would need to get started on. I'm heading over to the Score! Pop up swap this afternoon and want to make sure I go through everything in my apartment and get rid of anything that I'm not using. If you live in NY you should definitely try to make it. Swaps are awesome and you usually find some great stuff. i'll make sure to tell you all if I get any great finds.

*I also went to Ricky's yesterday and bought a new hairdryer as wel as hair "setters" as they're called. I'll tell you about it after I've tried them both.

in your face lace

Remember when I listed 7 random facts about me? And number 3 was that I was a dork? Well, this post title just proves it. Everytime I start a post I come up with the cheesiest titles for them and most days I hold myself back before hitting "publish post" and quickly change it. Today wasn't one of those days.

Comfort to me equals leggings. But then, leggings equals frumpy. So how do I manage to leave the house in leggings? Lace! I was so happy that kensiegirl was making these printed lace leggings, that I quickly snatched up a pair. I think they might even get remixed in this blog since i've already thought of a few different ways to wear them.
Today's comfy look is due to sleeping in (which I've been doing alot) and not having time to get into my usual routine. Plus, I'm trying to avoid washing my hair since my blowdryer is on the fritz and could possibly blow up at any moment, well that's what it sounds like anyways. I think it's time for me to take a walk over to Ricky's and invest in a new one while they're on sale. I'm also looking to get into using hot rollers. Does anyone use them anymore? I know they used to be popular but since the whole flat iron craze I'm not sure anyone is "setting" their hair anymore. I want to start.

party pics!

As mentioned in earlier posts, last night I attended the kensie party at Velour nightclub here in NYC. While I was rushed to get all of my work completed by 6pm, change into a party dress and then hail a cab nyc style to the party, I think I was able to make myself look half decent.

Here are some pictures I took of some stylish ladies (and myself).

Get through this

Is anyone else getting excited for the holidays? I mean, I'm not even a US citizen, yet I'm so anxious for Thanksgiving! Maybe its due to the fact that I missed out on the Canadian Thanksgiving back in October and will be going up to Ottawa (Ontario) to visit my family next week. It'll be especially nice since there's no set obligation to do anything while i'm there! I'll catch up with my parents, hang out with my siblings (brother, sister, sister-in law, and soon to be brother-in-law!), and definitely hit up a few thrift stores i.e.Value Village. Sounds like an awesome holiday if you ask me.

Now I just have to make it through the rest of this week, start packing early next week and make sure that I have blogging worthy outfits while i'm away. You didn't think I'd stop blogging did ya?

Oh and I completely forgot to let you know what I thought about Precious, (see Sunday's post). To tell you the truth, as touching as the movie may be ( I shed a few tears) and all the actors did an amazing job, it left me feeling depressed and sad. I  just wouldn't describe it as a feel good movie at all. Maybe I'm just a sucker for a happy ending, but if you're anything like me, I wouldn't rush to the theatres to see this.

First of all, thank you for your comments and encouragement on yesterday's post! It's so nice to hear that alot of people could relate to my outfit situation and that sometimes it's just all in your head and you just have to get past it.
I made an extra effort to look pulled together this morning by preparing my outfit last night. Now sometimes this has backfired on me for a few reasons:
1. The weather can be unpredictable and that chiffon skirt that I planned on wouldn't hold up in the downpour.
2. My mood can quickly change from being dressy to casual.
3. What I come up with in mind doesn't always pan out once everything is on.

Luckily today actually worked and I was very happy with the outcome!

It's a mix of items that I've posted many times before. I've linked the items in my "Outfit" description below if you care to see how I've worn each piece in the past.
